Drivers for Recocvery Environment Boot CD

$

To create an RE boot CD, there is an option to add drivers. This can be left blank, or drivers can be added. Storagecraft says the drivers can be added later dynamically as needed to run RE.

But, assuming I wanted to add drivers when creating the RE CD, how would I have any idea what drivers to add?

Node use options for home use

Is it possible to use node use to backup two laptops that are networked on a home network and which can be seen and written to,

from a desktop, if only the desktop has a ShadowProtect license and software? I am simply trying to find any way to back up

three computers to one NAS unit, if I buy one license, if I am able to communicate with the other two computers from the one

computer with a ShadowProtect license? Just trying to see if I can buy one license instead of three for home use if all three can see each other on the network and communicate with the NAS.

Locking handles created by ShadowProtectSvc.exe to every (external) hard drive insight

$

I guess this one has been around since at least 4.1.5 and still present in latest 5.1.x

Everyone of my mounted external volumes (at this moment 8 of them for other reasons) has an SPD locking handle (or more than one even) whether it is involved in any backup or not (none of the current 8 are).

Curiously Macrium Reflect does not appear to have this malady.

Is there any particular reason why this feature is present or even necessary?

I reported this one to Support a long time ago (>1+ years) in a galaxy far, far away.  Perhaps just a nusiance.

Sync'd copies of backup files with bad sectors

I use XXCOPY (from pixielab) with the /V2 switch to verify sync'd copies of backup images to an off-site drive (DATMAN 2-PASS algorithm apparently propriety by pixielab from back in the days of tape cartriidges - but details are hard to find).

On an external disk (with apparently a lot of going bad sectors) I had one incremental image had would not successfully verify on the copy (after up to 5 attempts I got all of the originals and incrementals to copy except this one).

Restore failure with SCRE 2.1.1.30154

I had a need to restore my System boot drive (C:) [an SSD unit].  Using the RE to boot, I selected the appropriate last full backup and started the restore process.  After several minutes, the result came back that the restore failed.  I then tried a verify of the same backup file and it failed. I tried verifying other backup files and they also failed.  Then exited the RE and tried booting back into the Windows environment, with the heart thumping message "Missing Operating System". The original backup had been created with SP 5.1.4 Build 32348.

In restoring a shadowprotect  backup of a windows 7 x64 system, the restore goes OK, hir goes ok.

however i get error 0xc000000e The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

i have attempted to fix the BCD, which the recovery environment says the BCD is valid after the fix but it still fails to boot with the same error.

any ideas? from what i've read this is due to a BCD issue however creating a new bcd does not seem to fix the problem.

thanks.

I restored windows 8. Now when the system boots it gives a windows boot manager screen instead of going straight to the desktop. It gives options of windows vista or diagnostics. I don't have vista on the pc but choosing this soption boots to windows 8. Is there a way to remove this so the pc will boot straight to windows 8?

Verify more than one image at a time?

My hard disk is partitioned. Since a backuo can be done with more than one drive at a time can the same be done with verify?

Also when installing I used the custom option to install Shadowprotect on a drive other than C. The progran couldn't find shadowprotect.svc unless it was installed on C. Either don't give the option to install on another drive or test to make sure it will work when installed on another drive. Thanks.

ShadowProtect Desktop + Server 2012 R2 Essentials Backup

Hi!

I would like to know if its is possible to use ShadowProtect Desktop backup together with Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Client PC Backup. The idea is to make use of both backup solutions for additional safety. Or do both programs interfere as both use VSS on the client PCs?

Thanks in advance!

Which partitions need to be included in a full Windows 8 backup?

I am new to this software and this forum, so this may be a dumb question.

The ShadowProtect Desktop Backup window shows about 6 different partitions on my Windows 8.1 system, (HP computer).  One is the C:\ drive, but others are marked with *:\ and have names like Windows RecoveryPartition, EFI System Partition, Windows Microsoft Reserved Partition, etc.

Do ANY of these partitions need to be included in a full backup, or just the C drive partition?   I am mostly interested in being able to do a full restore of the system in case of disaster recovery.

Hello,

I am very pleased with the Shadow Protect software. I am still in my trial period and fully plan to pay for the 3 PC bundle at the end of my trial.

I would like to find a tutorial or other step by step guide to teach me how to recover data from one of my backups(I backup three PCs and I am getting three sets of backup files onto my NAS in separate properl named share folders, and I view them and confirm that they are occurring).  Can anyone point me to such help that I describe that I need to recover data?

ShadowProtect Desktop will not allow me to move a file in Crossplatform

This will sound similar to another post topic but is quite different.

A few days ago I got the Blue Screen of Death on a Windows XP Pro computer.  When I tried to power it up the PC threw an error "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: hal.dll."

To me that should be no biggie.  I got out my StorageCraft recovery disk, inserted it into the CD drive, rebooted the computer, and it came up in Crossplatform.

Resetting Maximum Backups to Two Weeks Desktop Edition Version 4.1.5.9340

I originally set ShadowProtect Desktop for a maximum two weeks of data. That worked great until a couple of weeks ago when I noticed my external 1 TB harddrive was filling up. I haven't changed any settings or upgraded the program. I just can't remember how to go into the program to reset the two week intervals.

I also need to know the best way to delete the old data files on my hardrive that are taking up all the space (standard delete?).

Continu Incremen vs Weekly for full spf files

$

Hello,

I have set up continuous incremental backups and have been getting these since Jan. 1, when I got my .spf full backup. I have it set up now to do one each day, so I have about 17 .spi files. No new .spf files.

I am thinking that I will never be able to delete any of these .spi files, since they all depend back on each other and although I have the retention and consolidation set up, and I do see the cd and cw files. I thought that I would get a new .spf file weekly.

Image Conversion tool-consolidation-deletion of spi, spf files

$

Hello,

I have used the "image conversion tool" under Shadow Protect, to consolidate .spi files up to a given date of 01/15/14 including the applicable .spf full backup initial file. I am thinking that I can now delete all .spi files that were included, as well as the initial .spf full backup file. As long as I keep the new image file that is the consolidation file I made using Image Conversion Tool, I should be ok.

Is this strategy correct(delete the .spi and old .spf file, keep the new "consolidation" file made using image conversion tool?
Thanks, Debra

I finished a verify with Imagemanager. The log said verify thread finshed. So everything is fine? What would I see if there was a problem with the backup file?

Moved to Windows 8/64 ShadowProtect Desktop 5.1.4.32348 fails on backup of C drive

Backup works for all partitions but the C: partition. What is strange, the line "no need to get snapshot". This is the main Windows OS drive, it seems that it should have to get a snapshot. It then fails with "sbvol    504    Cannot lock the volume (-5 Access is denied.)". I have tried reinstalling, repairing, modifying the install to make sure the "Snapshot" was turned on didn't work.

I am at a loss, I can't find any settings to make it process the "C" drive as a main drive.

Moving SP license to "New" Machine

Have been running SP 3.5 under Win XP for several years. No problems. Works great for me. Recovered individual files and also recovered system image using recovery disk when system HDD went bad. Dual booting now with Win 7 due to  impending loss of support for XP. Installed SP under Win 7 but could not activate using original serial number. Thought it might work beacuse it was same machine. Decativated XP version and again tried to activate Win 7 version. No luck. Error message says that it could not reach SP server due to lack of web access. PC does have web access.
