Hi,
recently I built a new PC and bought Shadowprotect Desktop to backup my bootdisk.
So far I'm very happy with the performance of Shadowprotect Desktop.
Unfortunately it looks like that I need to replace the mainboard of the new PC as it seems to have a couple of hardware issues. It will be replaced with the exact same model and brand but obviously the new board will have a new serial number.
From my past experience I know that Windows and some other software package might need to be reactivated.
Last week, I created a full backup using ShadowProtect version 5.2.3. I did not set up the program to schedule automatic backups. Now, I want to create an incremental backup. Is there a way to do this? It seems that the only choice I have in the Wizard for incremental backups is "Continuous Incrementals" (see attached image), but this requires me to schedule backups, which I do not want. I only want to create backups when I choose to backup and manually plug in my external USB drive.
Also, what does "Use VSS" in the Wizard mean?
I can backup using Schedule/Now/Full but scheduled backups fail. Details are attached, Any ideas?
I'd like to create a 'consolidate my backups' job in my backup job list that i could run manually every several weeks as desired, to periodically collapse all incremental changes into one base image on my backup drive. However, image conversion isn't really a 'backup job'; it's more like a 'repeatable task', so I'm not sure if it is even possible to create it in my 'backup jobs' list. Furthermore, when I run the Image Conversion Tool, I am stopped by this baffling dialog: "Backup Image Dependencies - Verify current selection or select another point in
Hello,
I have been using ShadowProtect Desktop on my home computer for several months. About two weeks ago I started getting error emails alerting that the backup of a particular drive failed. After doing some research, the drive was effectively starting to go bad and I replaced it (Seagate 3TB) with a new drive (Western Digital Black 4TB).
I hate to expose my ignorance but here I go.
I am concerned about having Shadowprotect constantly running in the background on my desktop. I max out the resources on my machine with various 3d modeling, rendering & video activities. I worry about both resources and conflicts. So my question is....If I set up a job that creates incremental backups or creates differential backups and then close Shadowprotect, will the program still be able to recognize changes to my files, software, etc. when it is restarted say several days later on the days that I have set up for backup?
I am tesitng sp desktop for use on a windows 7 pro machine. I am a bit short on disk space to use as the backup location for this initial period. I'll have more disk space soon.
The immediate issue is this. I started what is probably a close to default sp backup routine, Sunday full, daily incremental on the hour. I did changed retention to enable policy, retain 2 sets, delete both full and incr in set, and enforce before next full backup.
My current PC is protected by Shadow Protect but it has Windows 7 in an OEM version.
I'm not familiar with migration, so what is the best advice for me to follow when I get my new PC with a new (retail) copy of Windows 8 installed on it.
Ideally I don't want to have to reinstall programmes that are currently installed. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I hope this is the right forum, so here goes. When attempting to start ImageReady, I get the message that no connection could be made because the target actively refused it. I get the same message with and without a firewall, with or without a “rule” authorizing the program in my AV program, and with or without any malware program being started or involved. It also doesn’t matter if I use localhost, 127.0.0.1 (same thing), or the IP of my NAS for the connection. The OS is Win 7x64, so connections might be an issue, but it seems unlikely at this juncture. Howeve
I'm able to mount an image file from Windows Explorer's context menu, where I see "StroageCraft Mount" and "StorageCraft Quick Mount".
When, after mounting an image, I then want to dismount, I understand one should see options in the context menu for Dismount and Quick Dismount. However, I still only see the "StorageCraft Mount" and "StorageCraft Quick Mount" options when I right click on the image file.
Am I missing something?
I used ShadowProtect to backup my Windows XP computer. I purchased a new Windows 7 computer and installed the Windows Virtual PC into it.
I then attempted to restore my backup of my Windows XP system into the Windows Virtual PC envirnoment but was unsuccessful.
Has anybody been able to do this? If so how?
I am currently using "another brand backup solution" with Vista X64 on RAID5 (3xHDD system), and I wish to start a fresh and new install with Win7 on a brand new SSD.
My planned procedure is to uninstall "that other brand backup solution" and install Shadow Protect to perform a one off backup of Vista, for archive purposes before I remove HDD.
After this back up is performed, the 3x HDD (RAID5) will be completely removed from the PC, and the new SSD installed ready for a fresh new install of Win7.
Can someone explain to me how to create a recovery bootable DVD. I do not see the option in the software. Thank you
It really shouldn't be this hard I would hope. I used imagemanager on an xp machine to make a full image. Copied it onto the replacement win 7 machine. Same username / password in a workgroup on both machines.
Just got a new system with lots of new terms to learn (e.g., uEFI, GPT, Bitlocker, etc.). Under "Configuring a Weekly/Monthly Backup Job", the Help file says systems typically have 3 system partitions (Diagnostic, Recovery, and System Reserve). It also says that the System Reserve volume is needed when Bitlocker is enabled, but only needs to be backed up once.
I'm running SPD v4.2.7 on a Win 7 machine. For some reason the scrollbar has decided to consistently fail to appear within the upper pane of the backup history tab. Dragging the bottom edge to resize the pane, even a small amount, will restore the scrollbar for a particular session. But closing ShadowProtect then relaunching it reverts the pane dimension changes and removes the scrollbar again. I haven't yet discovered a way to preserve my pane size preference changes. If I maximize or "restore down" the window, the scollbar returns as well.
Shouldn't be that hard?!
I imaged a dell win 7 machine - has 3 partitions - utility, restore and windows.
Restored just the windows drive onto a new partion / new hard drive using the full space of hard drive for image.
Now it boots and says 'no boot device found'.
I go into the restore environment and run the BCD. autofix is greyed out. analyze / columns say it's bootable, active, i try repairing and other buttons and still don't get it working
advice?
Three separate (and unrelated) support cases that I've submitted to StorageCraft this year have resulted in termination of the case email dialogs between myself and the attending support specialists, withoutissueresolution, and without closing comments from the attending support specialists. From my perspective, it appears as if these support folks simply decide to drop the cases and ignore my subsequent replies. I say "ignore", because when I've replied back in these case email threads there have been no further responses from the support specialists.
As you can see from the following screen grab, I am not doing so well with restoring this backup. You can see I have tried and failed several times, but I was able to run Verify on the backup with no issues reported. Can I fix this? Can I get some but not all of the files back? It is not life and death as I have most of the contents in another manual backup, but it holds files I don't have other backps of.
