How to automatically verify backups

$

My search has found inconsistent information.  I'm doing a combination of hourly and daily backup jobs from multiple partitions.  I'm using ShadowProtect Desktop version 5.2.3.37285 on Windows 10.  I would like to automate doing a verification once per day, at night, for every backup job.

Is ImageReady what I should use?  (ref: https://www.storagecraft.com/support/book/shadowprotect-user-guide/using-imageready )

I don't need this often, but when I do! Quick question, please....

My hard drive is showing errors on my laptop. It works as if no problems now. I have an SSD and Sata to USB adapter on the way.

I plan to restore my last full backup to the SSD and swap wth the failing hard drive. I will do this from Windows since it is to an external drive.

How can I be sure it will be bootable when I do the swap?

Thanks so much for your input.

"Status: Expired" - but it shouldn't be

I have ShadowProtect Desktop (Version 5.2.3.37285) installed on two Window 10 PCs.  I renewed in April 2015 (3 licenses) and all has been working fine until yesterday.  Suddenly on one of my PCs, ShadowProtect stopped working.  The email failure report says:  "service 301 Missing or invalid license file"

When I check the Activation from within the ShadowProtect program (Help/Product Activation) on this PC, it says "Status: Expired".

ShadowProtect continues to work normally on the second PC, where Help/Product Activation says "Status:  Active"

I need help understanding what gets deleted or compressed

Attached to this post are my backup settings and then a list of the files that exist. This confuses me. I would expect at this time, there are just two sets of files, the monthly from November and the monthly from October. Also, I would have thought the incrimentals folder would be empty, but that is not the case. Can someone explain what is going on?

Compatability with Windows 10

Will my Shadoe Protect version 4.2.5 work with Windows 10 ?

Trying to access a share to store the image gets a weird error message. Any advice?

Starting with SP desktop. We have 2 machines doing continuous backups to a share on an sbs 2011 standard server. It's a domain configuration. The share is on an external hard drive connected to the server. The arrangement has worked for a couple months.  Now the backups on both machines fail with this message:

Cannot execute job (An untrusted certificate authority was detected While processing the smartcard certificate used for authentication. Please contact your system administrator. 0x80090352(2148074322))

For reasons I'll skip, I was swapping USB drives.
I had Drive_A and Drive_B.

Continious backups.
On week one, the backups went to Drive_A.
On week two, Drive_A was replaced by Drive_B.
All went pretty well.

C drive getting errors. Replace computer?

I want to check my thinking, please.

1)  Am I correct:  This computer should be replaced?
2)  Should I run CHKDSK?
3)  How do I restore a backup taken with OLD computer to NEW computer?

Question 1:
Carol has a PowerSpec desktop.  Event log is showing lots of "Disk" errors.
Acronis Disk Monitor shows "Current Pending Sector Count" and "Uncorrectable Sector Count: with Status of "Degradation.
ShadowProtect refuses to do automatic backups until I run CHKDSK.

Is there a way to script / automate the recovery of a machine - as a way to get back to a steady state?

Is there a way to script a restore in the recovery environment?  I envision you'd boot off the thumb drive with the RE. It would have the image on the thumbdrive. The RE woudl start, say no to start networking, choose any timezone, then restore to the existing C partition using the image on the thumbdrive, choose defaults on the next screens, do the restore, reboot and the machine would be back at the windows desktop like it was when the image was made.

error on image conversion tool

I have a continuous incremental ackup chain started Oct 2013 and ending Dec 2014. I want to use the image conversion tools to create a single SPF image as of Dec 2014 to free up space. Unfortunately, the Apr 2014 monthly consolidated file is corrupt and gives a decompress failed error. I know I could create the image up to Mar 2014 but I would lose nine months of changes. Is there any way to see how bad the error is in that file or to get it to ignore the error and proceed with the image conversion.

Unable to create incremental backup due to lack of storage space

I am using StorageCraft ShadowProtect version 5.2.3.

Yesterday, I manually launched an incremental backup of my laptop's C drive. It failed with my log showing that there was not enough empty space on my external hard drive. This error makes no sense to me; my external hard drive had 266 GB of free space and my incremental backups are generally no larger than 15 GB. The largest I have seen was 28 GB.

The very first entry in the Backup history log was: "service (build 59) started job manually as incremental."

Kudos & question about viewing backup properties, licence

Hi,

First of all: kudos! I just had a secondary storage drive start to fail on me. It was failing incremental backups, saying a device attached to the system disappeared. Thankfully, the full backup from a few days earlier was good, and I was able to restore it to a new drive. The failed drive reported "Too many bad sectors" using Western Digital's tool to do an extended check, so I've RMAed it.

I have two questions:

Backups failing since updating to Windows 10

Hi team,

Getting frustrated and alarmed. Upgraded to SPX and encountered problems with some backups failing. Obtained good tech support but in the end decided to revert to ShadowProtect Desktop. Deleted all the files on the NAS to start afresh, and setup new backup. But still not able to complete backups.

Diagnostic and ShadowProtect run messages.

Ideas?

Andrew

SPX Desktop stopped backing up

Hi,

While using SPX 6.0.16 on my own PC, I have just discovered that the backups haven't been working since 7th March.  Interestingly the last backup, for whatever reason, is a differential (this is a continuous incremental backup job).

When I manually attempt to start the backup, and select "Start an incremental backup" it says "Running - start job script:" for about 15 seconds then just reverts back to a "queued" status.  No errors, bit worrying isn't it!

Lack of Desktop Edition support for before/after backup target volume mounting?

$

Okay.  I completely struck out with a support ticket on asking for a simple example of how to securely mount a backup target volume just before the backup job runs and then to dismount it after the job completes.

In this era of RANSOMWARE, this seems to be the recommended approach to ensuring that the backup images allow recover should your system get hit with this kind of malware.  I for one am not conscious at 3 am when that backup job is about to run so I cannot perform this mounting / dismounting manually.

Encrypted laptop disk

Hello,

My first post since purchasing Shadow Protect Desktop for Windows. I'm running Windows 7 (all updates) on a Lenovo T450s laptop at work. They require the disk to be encrypted using MacAfee. For some reason last week (after a failed update) it hung for 10 hours on upgrading '35%' after reboot. Sooo forgetting that it was encrypted, I did a RE restore of the disk (including MBR et al). When I rebooted after restore, I get 'EECP Corrupt' (corrupted encryption) and it refused to continue. Ahhhhhrrrggghhhh.

Updating to a new Windows 10 system and trying to decide whether to continue with ShadowProtect

I am a longtime user of ShadowProtect desktop. I am currently using SP 4.1.5 on my old desktop, which is a Windows XP system. I have two backup jobs, one for my system drive and one for my secondary "document" drive. The jobs are basically identical: each backs up to an external eSATA drive, and each consists of a once-a-week full DIFFERENTIAL backup, with 3 to 5 daily incremental backups (the original full backup is now many years old - each weekly full backup is a differential). I keep three or four backup sets..
